I was so delighted to discover They Draw and Cook recently! It’s a clever site that posts a new illustrated recipe everyday from artists all around the world. The recipes vary in their complexity but if you love art and enjoy to cook, this is a great read for everyday. Cheers!

I bookmarked this awhile back and haven’t been able to stop thinking about these wallpaper inspired cookies from Miette. I can’t even imagine the time it goes into making one of these but I am beyond impressed. It just goes to show that inspiration can come from anywhere, and in this case the result is just delicious!
Speaking of delish, check out some of these other mouth-watering confections from Miette… wow! All available for purchase on their site.

For Part II of a Baby Shower In Blue I wanted to share some more details. With the help of my husband, we made a four-tiered white cake with lemon curd filling and a lemon butter cream frosting. For the topper, I ordered some blank nesting dolls
and hand painted them to match the illustrations from the invites. It took some trial and error in painting, but I think the final result turned out pretty well.
Each seat at the table had a crossword puzzle based on Allison and Ryan and words related to pregnancy and parenthood. The game was a great way to get people mingling and having fun. To add a bit of whimsy to the table, old fashioned grey and white striped straws adorned each glass. Lastly, for favors, I made little sewn envelopes based on these by Rebecca Thuss. I put wrapped shortbread cookies inside and sealed with a baby pin. Be sure to check back tomorrow; I’ll be sharing the How-To for the fabric favor envelopes!

Yesterday’s post featuring that adorable striped sweater from Anthropologie reminded me of a picture I had saved a bit ago from Whisk Kid. How amazing is this rainbow cake?! Having just recently attempted to make a tiered cake myself, I know what an incredible challenge all those layers can be, so I’m doubly impressed. What I still can’t wrap my brain around is that frosting! How did she manage to make it so darn smooth?! The colors are equally as impressive and bright – wowza! Now if only I could get a taste through the screen…

This charming identity and set of stamps a for Brown, a confectionary in Bogotá. I love how the combination of the kraft paper and rich stamped artwork make these delightful packages feel both rustic and classy without trying too hard. The whole effect is simply delicious!

Wear your cake and eat it too! A friend of mine sent this to me and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. It sounds so odd to make a dress out of cake but somehow this managed to be stunningly beautiful. Who knew frosting could look so chic!
This extraordinary creation was created by Lukka Sigurdardottir and more pics can be seen on Gather and Nest.

Back by popular demand! These were a big hit last year and I’ve been getting tons of emails lately about them so I’ve made an updated version for 2010! Just download the file and print directly onto the paper bag. For more detailed instructions and other printing suggestions visit my previous post here. Once you’ve made the bags, fill with heart shaped brownies cut with a cookie cutter.
Last year one reader suggested that a wax paper or glassine bag be placed inside to preserve the craft bag. I loved the suggestion and incorporated it into these photos. To make the scalloped edge, simply cut tops of bags off using a rotary cutter and scalloped pinking blade.
Additionally, I now also carry the brown craft bags in my Etsy shop. Sold in packs of 25 they’re great for all sorts of crafts, gifts and little treats! Not a fan of the craft bag? I also stock them in white. I’ve got a few more Valentine’s Day goodies coming this week so be sure to check back often!
Psst! You can find those adorable straws over at Garnish! They come in red, blue and green – oh the possibilities!!!
*UPDATE! I completely spaced on the fact that the rest of the world writes their dates differently so please forgive my polarizing design. I’ve created another file which you can download here with the date 14.02.10. Apologies and please enjoy! xoxo, Kathleen
