Well Branded: Flour Pot

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

This identity system for the Flour Pot Bakery just might be my favorite yet! From the cheerful color palette and the whimsical hand-drawn type, it’s charming without being over-the-top.

Sara Nicely, the brilliant designer behind the design, created the system to best illustrate the natural baked goods and eclectic shop environment. The best part is the strategically placed menu on the baguette bag so that customers can carry it home and read it while enjoying their loaf – brilliant!

An Apple For Teacher

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

I thought I had just about seen it all when it comes to cupcakes but that was until I saw these little darlings! Coco Cake made these apple cupcakes for the wedding of a teacher and they look absolutely scrumptious. Check out their blog post for more pictures and details!

P.S. Don’t forget to get your vote in the the Better Homes & Gardens mask contest. You can vote daily and I could really use the help!

It’s a Cinch

Monday, September 13th, 2010

I saw these business cards on Jordan Gray’s blog and just melted. Design by and for Cinch Creative, a new design group out of Kansas City, I just love everything about these. Letter pressing the faux wood was a stroke of genius. If the rest of their work is half as good as their business cards expect big things from them!

P.S. As a bonus, check out their blog where the give you a behind the scenes look on how they designed their logo!

T&T for Better Homes & Gardens

Friday, September 10th, 2010

I’m so excited to finally be able to share my first project for Better Homes & Gardens! As I mentioned in my earlier post, three other bloggers and myself were asked to contribute and take part in an online contest where we’ll each create four projects based around specific concepts. For the first challenge we were charged with making a halloween mask. I decided on a peacock inspired mask, and to give it a twist I wanted to make the feathers entirely out of paper.

To make the mask, I coated the base in glue then covered it with light blue flocking powder – my new favorite find! The small feathers were made useing a leaf craft punch and then glued in place with a hot glue gun. To make the larger peacock feathers, I created a template in illustrator then cut them out of card stock. To keep them standing up straight I backed a few with floral wire. For a little sparkle, I lined the eyes with mini rhinestones, added a little extra detail around the right eye and  affixed one to each of the large feathers. To complete the look, I added coordinating ribbons to either side for securing in place.

This was a lot of fun for me and I can’t wait to share the next project. In the mean time, make sure to head over to Better Homes & Gardens before October 10th to see the other contestant’s work and to vote on your favorite!
