Giveaway!! Silhouette Digital Cutting Tool

September 23rd, 2010

Ok peeps, this is our biggest giveaway yet and I have been so excited to share it with you! I was recently given a Silhouette Cutting Machine to test out and review. If I wasn’t happy with it I could send it back, no questions asked. Um, ok!

I’d seen similar machines on the market and had actually looked into purchasing the Silhouette a while back but wasn’t entirely convinced. This was the perfect opportunity for me to see it what it could really do. The Silhouette works just like a printer but instead of printing your artwork, it cuts it. The best part is that there are no cartridges – you create your own text and shapes. Plus, it comes with images and even more available to purchase online! Being a designer, I wanted complete control over the designs and I have all the tools I need to create custom designs so that’s why this particular one appealed to me most.

They just launched their Mac software so I haven’t had a ton of time to test out all the features but so far I am overwhelmingly pleased with the results. I’ve managed to cut out 200 envelope liners in 45 minuets which normally would have taken me at least five hours. I cut out perfect leaf shapes without using an x-acto knife and even a box template which can be a bit time consuming.

There are so many things that this little machine can do and I honestly can NOT wait to try them each out. You can purchase vinyl to cut and use to create custom displays in your home. You can even use the vinyl to adhere to glass and create custom etchings! You can buy Tattoo Paper to make temporary tattoos as well as heat transfer paper for adding designs to fabric. Seriously, the possibilities are endless!

Above is a quick gift I wrapped for a friend who bought her first home. I wanted a unique embellishment that would be indicative of the momentous occasion. Keys seemed like an obvious choice and I thought they’d make a pretty addition. I love how it turned out and with the Silhouette it was super simple to do.

So, here’s the EXCITING part, Silhouette is giving away a machine to ONE lucky winner!!! That’s a $299.99 value! The gift includes the machine, software for Windows XP/Vista and Mac, 2 cutting mats, a blade and a $10 gift card to their online store. WOWZA!

There are three ways to enter:

1. Visit the Silhouette website to view all the creative possabilities. Come back here and tell us what you’d make with your Silhouette by leaving a comment at the end of this post.
2. Blog about it with a link back to this post, then come back and leave a comment with the link.
3. Mention it on Twitter or Facebook using the links below, and then come back and leave a link in the comments.

Be sure to leave your email address and your first name and first inital of your last name (i.e. Stacy P) in the comments. Winner must be in the USA and only one winner per household.

Competition closes Wednesday, September 29th at 5pm PST. The winner will be randomly drawn from the comments and announced Thursday, September 30th. Good luck to you all, I’m so excited! I’ll be sharing some more projects over the next week so stay tuned!

The contest is now closed!

I just started planning my wedding for next year and I’m going to be making my own cards (save the date, invitation, RSVP, escort, program, everything!) so I’d love one of these to help me make them! I’m also really impressed with the sketch designs, they look like a lot of fun! Thanks for the giveaway!

I’ve heard so many great things about the Silhouette, but without the Mac software, I just had to drool over other people’s projects. Now I’m so excited that I could play too! Thanks for the giveaway! I would be a big kitchen nerd, and create etched glass containers for spices with a mix of different fonts! And then make some temporary tattoos instructing others to ‘Kiss the Cook!’

I’d love to make some vinyl decor for my house- the stairs in my house are in desperate need of decorating and I think vinyl stickers would be amazing! Great giveaway!

  15. Katie Says:

This is such a cool machine. I really like that you have total control of what it cuts instead of having to buy templates or plates from the company. I am in the process of opening up an etsy shop to showcase my silkscreen prints. This machine would be perfect for cutting out shapes that I can use to make positives for the photo emulsion process. This would also be great for making really fun cards and paper goods. Thanks for the info.

  16. Susan W Says:

wow – I would so love one of these. I have a cutting machine and a lot of dies – but it’s never quite the one I want… for a special card, or for a craft activity for my scout group or the scrapbook. Even work – I have some great ideas of what we could do with some vinyl words. We’ve painted walls in some brilliant colours and some vinyl lettering would just finish it off nicely.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  34. Philane Says:

My husband and I are expecting our first baby by end of November and we’ve slowly been working on the baby room. We’ve actually been trying to look for the perfect ready made vinyls for the walls but couldn’t find any that stood out. What’s better than making your own? And getting to change it as the baby grows older? Aside from vinyl stickers, I’d make a nice mobile that will hang from the ceiling to keep mommy and baby entertained during sleepless nights. Love love love this giveaway!

This is AMAZING!! 81. Pamela T Says:

Glass etching, cutouts, so many options!

  82. Amber C Says:

This machine looks so amazing. It’s everything I’ve ever dreamed of! I’ve recently started an “inspiration binder” with all sorts of wonderful patterns, designs and crafties that I’ve been dying to do. Unfortunately, after a recent car accident I’m stuck too far in debt in order to really do a lot, which is also a major bummer for my 8yr old daughter who adores making things. Every payday I give her a $20 bill and we go to Michael’s (Craft Store, are they national?) and buys little $1 ceramics, scrapbook stickers, put-together projects, etc. I know she would love this as well!
Another thing would be making clothes!! I’ve turned to thrift shops and super clearances in order to keep up my fashion “addiction” and this would make it easy to have fun clothing.
I Facebook “Liked” this and posted it on my profile. Unfortunately, I do not have a blog, but I’m an avid blog reader, does that count? =)

(Seriously, how cute is that gray bag on the home page?!) We have two windows along the sides of our front door that I’d like to add some kind of privacy screen to. I always make my own cards for every occasion, so I’d definitely use it for that. I’ve also wanted to etch the spice jars and other storage containers in my pantry, but I’ve just put it off because of how tedious it would be to cut out all the letters. This would be perfect for that!

First, I’m having a afternoon tea bridal shower in about 2 months. So many possibilites: invitations, favors, name cards, decorations. Second, I love orginization. I have some glass containers that hold things like flour, sugar, rice, etc. And when I reach in the pantry I always pull out the wrong one. I’ve doubled the flour with no sugar in a recipe more times than I can count!

  187. Nathalie C Says:

Oh man… I just visited the Silhouette website and I think I am in love! The very first thing I would use this for would be to cut out tags for all of my Christmas gifts! 194. Grant Says:

I’d cut all sorts of stuff for my upcoming wedding! Coasters, and tags, and table numbers! The list goes on and on!

  195. Natalie N. Says:

I would most definitely use it to print out words and then I would put them on some of our glass jars and use etching solution to etch the words on to the glas ( i.e. a big jar of candy with a whimsical font that says “sweets”)

  196. Kate Smith Says:

now I could use this with my mac!! I love the etched glass and heat transfer products! I would use it for so many things!!

I would also use it for invitations and other cards, as well as helping with favor making or decorations. So many uses!

This is so cool! There are tons of things to make with it. I tried the Cuttlebug (manually roll/press type) machine earlier but returned it because it was a hassle. I would LOVE to win this!

Of course, then there are all the birthday cards and gift ideas I could pursue. The possibilities are endless, as are my ideas for using this thing! The Silhouette looks amazing!
