Scherenschnitte
February 19th, 2010Cut paper, silhouettes, sculptures; call them what you like but personally I think they’re pure genius! Scherenschnitte is the fancy name for these lovely works of art by the talented Cindy Ferguson. I can’t get over all the tiny little details! I thought I was handy with a craft knife until I saw these. Luckily for all of us, Cindy has a blog of her own where you can see more of her amazing work as well as download templates for free!
And for those lucky enough to live in Salt Lake City, Utah, Miss fancy fingers has a beautiful show taking place this weekend at the Discovery Gateway Museum from 6-9pm. If you can’t make it but would like a glimpse into how the craft is done, check out this sweet little video that Cindy put together as an introduction.
Have a great weekend everyone and see you back here Monday!

‘Scherenschnitte’ is nothing more than the German word for ‘paper cut-outs’ (literally: scissor-cuts). Nothing fancy about it, really!
I agree, though, they’re beautiful. I love the ‘Thank you’ head!

Just stumbeld across a German word in the English section of my blog feeds – Scherenschnitte – and immediately had to find out why it was there. So here I am – lovely work, those cut papers! And I love your blog, too – by the way!
Scherenschnitte means “scissor cuts” if you translate it literally and we use it exactly for that kind of art shown above. Lovely!
Greetings from Germany
