2010 Desk Calendars

Monday, October 12th, 2009

I spotted this amazing round-up of 2010 letterpress calendars on Oh So Beautiful Paper last week and it made me realize that it’s time for me to finally narrow down my choices and commit. Since I happen to be incredibly indecisive AND I love all things letterpress this is an extremly diffucult decision for me. To ease the pain I’m thinking I’ll splurge for three; one for my desk at work, one for the fridge and another for my office at home.

Carveless Pumpkins

pumpkins

Yesterday’s post got me hooked on carveless pumpkins so I did some searching and found some more amazing examples. The sky really is the limit for what you can do! I also like the idea of decorating with plain pumpkins, they just so perfectly evoke the spirit of the season. I’m definitlly going to have to make some time next week to do some pumpkin inspired projects of my own!

I love Halloween, I know I say that about every holiday, but I have a special place in my heart for any celebration lets everyone get hopped up on sugar and act completely silly.

So with the date rapidly approaching and I ran across this great tutorial at Better Homes and Gardens on how to stencil a pumpkin. It looks so easy to do and the results are absolutely fantastic!

Okay, I’m just going to get it out of the way; the name is really unfortunate but the packaging more than makes up for it! This identity package for the Japanese restaurant Chicken Pecker, by Commune, feels so fresh and healthy. My favorite are the napkins, I have no idea what it says but I like to think it reads: EAT THIS CHICKEN IT IS TASTY AND DELICIOUS, NOM! NOM! NOM!

UPDATE! Reader Ikukito was kind enought to translate the napkin!

The napkin says like this:

I guess that we have met before.

Thing that we can use, we use that.
We can’t waste papers either trees.
Japan produces more than 30 billion milk cartons a year.
Those cartons for liquid are used high rank pulp.
We can’t recycle food but we, Chicken Pecker, recycle other things around food. In spite of that seems small thing but we walk steady.

Thanks Ikukito!

My friend and co-worker Jessixa Bagley happens to be a fantastic illustrator. Her work is a mixture of character design, fine art, and cartoon imagery. I’ve always enjoyed her work so I thought I’d share a few of my favorites that she’s created. I’m particularly fond of her Tree Series. Wouldn’t these make the most charming collection in a classroom?!

I adore her use of ink and watercolor as well as her delicate illustration style but it’s Jessixa’s unique sense of humor that always puts a smile on my face. You can see her wit throughout her pieces and her collection of Robots and Cupcakes is the perfect example of her clever genius. Be sure to check out the rest of Jessixa’s fantastic portfolio here. Many thank’s to Jessica for letting me share her work with all of you! xoxo
