Surprise 60th Birthday Party! Part 1
August 11th, 2009I’m thrilled to finally be able to share some of the details of my Mother-in-Law’s surprise 60th birthday party that I’ve been helping put together for the last few weeks. For someone that deserves it the most, this was such a fun event to help plan!
Pictured above are the invitations that I designed just for the event. Since Marilyn is an avid and brilliant quilter I decided to use sewing as the theme. I created the pattern by referencing traditional quilting patterns and added the needle at the top for some detail. Peridot is Marilyn’s birth stone so I tried to incorporate the pale green throughout as well.
To continue with the sewing theme each guest received a handmade pin cushion. Thanks to my husband and my own mother we managed to sew all 40 of these in 2 days! It was a ton of work but everything turned out beatifully and I think she was genuienly surprised. Happy Birthday Marilyn, lot’s of love! xoxo
Check back tomorrow for some more details and a freebie!

I love the pincushion–and the color palette. The blue and green looks so classic, so vintage! Lovely work.

I love the theme and pincushion. My daughter is graduating from highschool this year and I want to make her something that would include a swatch of the fabrics she has used in her class sewing projects. I think the pincushion would be perfect. Would you be wiling to share the pattern? If so, I’ll be happy to share the final results. Maybe it would be a neat thing for all the senior students to make themselves as a momento. I would be glad to share with the teacher if you like that idea too!

I just wanted to let you know you won the Valsey & Me individual soaps giveaway over at The Brightside Project but you have to claim it by e-mailing them today (Wed) in order to get it because you have one week and your week ends tomorrow. They don’t e-mail you to tell you that you won, but I thought I’d want someone to tell me so I don’t miss it. Besides, those individual soaps are a pretty awesome win, if I do say so myself. Here’s the link> http://thebrightsideproject.com/2009/07/valsey-me.html
I also e-mailed you so hopefully you’ll make it over there between the comment and the e-mail.
Have a wonderful day!
P.S. I love your blog!

What a cute idea. Love the pincushion, and I too would love if you could share the pattern. My Mom is turning 90 in Sept. and we are doing a sewing theme for her party also, and these would be so cute for party favors.
