I love this! What a great idea. My friend and I have always talked about making our own vanilla extract but this has definitely encouraged me to do so, ASAP. Love your work!

What a great (and pretty) idea. I’ve never thought to use them as favors or give as gifts but I’ll definitely keep that in mind. I’ve used homemade vanilla extract before and I’ve been to to the Hawaiian Vanilla Company (only commercial vanilla farm in the U.S.) and it was amazing. They hosted meals using vanilla beans, extract etc. It made me even more addicted to vanilla…now I have another great way to use it!

Definitely on my list of potential wedding favor. Can you tell me where you buy your corks from though?? Thanks very much!

I found the corks at Home Depot actually and I know that Ace Hardware sells them too. I’m assuming most hardware store will have them. Good luck!

This is hands down the cutest idea I have seen…I never realized you could even make your own vanilla extract…and then to make it so cute! I love all your designs and your blog, and this is something so practical and fun! I’ve shared it with all my girlfriends and mom!

I LOVE this! your jars and photos are pretty too! I am thinking about doing this for my bridal shower favor. Love it! Thanks!

These look amazing!
How big are the jars you used? 4 oz or 8 oz?
August 20th, 2009 at 11:28 am
Do you take out the beans before funneling the extract into the bottles as presents?
August 20th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
You can leave the beans in if you like but since my jars were so small they wouldn’t fit.
August 20th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
Oh, good question Kelly! The jars I used are 4oz jars. Good luck!

I was wondering if you filter it before putting it in a jar. Mine is not very appetizing looking with all the little vanilla from the pods floating around.

Hi Jenn,
Yes, I think putting it through a sieve is a good idea or test one out and see if it settles after a day or two. Good luck!

So beautiful – I definitely want to put these in my wedding goody-bags. I’ll be sure to keep one for myself though! Where did you get the bottles? I can’t find any in that kind of shape.

Hi Jane, I purchased the bottles from Packaging Specialties. I don’t believe the bottles are online but you can order them over the phone. Hope that helps and congrats on the upcoming wedding!!!
